Hour 1: The High Point Experience

There isn't much to say about "The High Point Experience" except that it is definitely a unique one. From the lavish buildings to the luxurious nests that we sleep in, you could say that this school coddles the students and pampers them to the extreme and this has both positive and negative consequences.

The good part about being swaddled in the lap of luxury is pretty obvious. Who doesn't want to live their life in the best fashion with all the new things that are offered. It provides a nice reputation for the school and depending on who you meet at the school, you can forge some important connections that will help you later in life. The luxuries offered by the school has also made the transition from being dependent on my parents to being independent far easier than most experiences that I have heard about.

Along with material luxuries offered by the school there are various other opportunities that the school immerses the students in. Success coaches will always be contacting the students trying to get them ahead of the game in terms of finding jobs or internships in the increasingly competitive job market. However, the cleanest bathrooms and the softest beds only help to cushion and hide the negative aspects of the school.

The main one being, in my opinion, the academics. So far this school has proved to be far easier than I would have ever thought higher education would be. I would struggle to say that I have actually learned new content at this school because most of my classes so far have been review of high school. Along with the easy academics at the school, there is also a lack of certain majors that seem important to attracting and retaining future students.

While the school doesn't shine in some academic senses, it teaches very unique and interesting classes. For example, President's Seminar taught by Dr. Nido Qubein, teaches students about essential life skills that they will need outside of the classroom. This class has been one of my favorite things that HPU has offered to me thus far in my college experience because I found it to be a useful and innovative way to get students ahead of the curve.

Despite the shortcomings of the school I still relish my time at High Point University because of the friends and connections I have made at this school as well as the other things such as President's Seminar. I feel as though I may not have learned a lot of conceptual knowledge at this school I have grown in character tremendously and my old views have shifted slightly as I become independent of my parents.
